Brian Lawton photographer...
Several years ago, Holmfirth Film Festival was entrusted with a collection of photographs, negatives and related documents left by Brian Lawton. Brian was a former postman and amateur photographer who had a wide ranging interest and involvement in the regional music scene. He documented local music events for decades, from the early 1960s, building a large collection of interesting material. The collection includes photographs of many famous performers associated with jazz, blues, rock, pop, and folk music. He also photographed actors, celebrities and comedians who appeared locally over the years.
You can find out more about the collection by visiting the project website - brianlawtonproject.org.uk
During 2017-2018 HFF were awarded a Heritage Lottery Fund grant in order to make Brian’s materials available. The project concentrated on his large collection of photographs and documents relating to the folk music scene and during its duration, involved a number of talks and events.
A large number photographs from the collection are still available to view online.
