Top of the critics' list as the best film of the year. A slow burning Hitchcockian mystery thriller about obsessive love that is ultimately mesmerising and is hard to get out of your head. Bravura, chilling performances and a master director at the top of the international tree.

Dir. Lee Chong-dong (South Korea 2018, 148mins 15)

Denmark's entry to the Oscars is a gripping abduction thriller done in real time. The Guardian said it was a 'masterclass in wringing breathless tension from just a few key ingredients' - man in a room, a female and a gun. Excellent director, editing and superb central performance by Jakob Cedergren.

Dir. Gustave Moller (Denmark 2018, 85mins 15)

Rare screening for what is often cited as the greatest war film ever made and the model for many films in that genre. Shot in Cambodia as the US involvement in the Vietnam War was beginning, the writer/director draws on his own experiences as a French soldier in the Indo-China war in 1954 and as a war photographer.

Dir. Pierre Schoenderffer (France 1965, 100mins 12)

Starring Colin Firth and Kenneth Branagh in their first film, this is a captivating adaption of J. L. Carr's novel set in Yorkshire in 1920 about former soldiers scarred by their experiences. Excellent English romanticism rarely seen but now re-released and remastered after the original print was feared lost.

Dir. Pat O'Connor (UK 1987, 96mins PG)

BAFTA winning documentary on the career of a member of the Walker Bros, one of the biggest acts of the 60s. Follows Scott from pop star to a cult figure with interviews from Bowie, Eno and Radiohead, who were all influenced by this enigmatic figure who died in March.

Meltham Memories will be celebrating a 50s/60s weekend on 6-7 July 2019.

For those who enjoyed Faces/Places here is a chance to see the multi-award winning film by Varda who died in March. Sandrine Bonnaire is outstanding as the young drifter who wanders through the Languedoc wine country one winter. A poetic stunner.

Local wrestlers suit up for the last time when their beloved pub is threatened with closure in true Brit comedy. Filmed in Marsden, Meltham and Huddersfield with a great 80s soundtrack.

Huddersfield born director and screenwriter Dan Cadan leads a panel of independent film-makers to discuss their own experiences on how to get into the industry.

With Ryan Simons (Director) and Jamie Cymal (Producer) of Quickfoot Media talking about their supernatural horror, Demon Eye (2019), filmed in Huddersfield and recently taken up for American release, and Chris Birks, director of One Bright Dot, Yorkshire’s leading post production facility for independent films.
